Sweet Inspiration

Now that the school year is coming to a close, I feel the desire to get back into my blog and all the friends that are associated with it.  This has been an intense year at my work and I needed a few long weeks to focus primarily on my students. Now that summer is right around the corner, my mind is racing about the creative ways in which I can work on my home during my time off. I already have two road trips to San Francisco and both are centered around the time of the Alameda Flea Market.  I look forward to it every summer.  I found this beautiful home and it started me thinking of a few changes I could make at home that wouldn't be that expensive. I still love the mix of old and new together and I think this house has the perfect balance.

I've really missed all of you and hope I will be in better contact.  Hope you enjoy these phtoographs.

Sweet Simplicity - Delikatissen

I adore everything about this home - the brick walls painted white, the mix of modern and antique, and of course, the neutral palate.  My mind is able to focus more in a neutral setting - perhaps there's already enough color in my life elsewhere!  I especially like the bedroom with the door to a garden.  What's not to love!

Back to the Basics for the New Year

I always feel the need to clean, edit, and reassess my home and what I might change in the new year.  I've cleaned out the closets and drawers and now I'm taking a critical eye to each room.  What needs updating? What am I ready to let go of?  Out with the things I don't need and time for a simplified home.

Daylight Sleepy

How did I possibly get up an hour early today?  I thought it was 6:00 am and it was actually 5 am.  I managed to change all the clocks EXCEPT the one in my bedroom.  The good thing is that I have an hour to play in my home before going to work.  Ahh - the joys of my own stupidity!

Wardrobe Update

It's always in August that I have thoughts of updating my wardrobe.  The September Vogue arriving, thoughts of going back to work, and a crisp feeling in the air when I wake up all remind me that I need to start thinking about getting ready for a new school year.  This year, I'm thinking of adding a bit more neutrals that seem to be showing their face a lot - grays, beige, carmel - I feel inspired to find a few new things.

My Love Affair With White

For many years I have decorated with white.  The past five or six years I've added quite a bit of brown but I have to say I am the queen of neutral.  Some find it boring but for me it is so serene.  I prefer the salt and pepper of my life to be in the life I live and not in the decor.  I have tons of texture but love keeping it neutral.  Here are some photos that I found particularly inspiring.  Enjoy.

Rustic Elegance Part II

Beautiful neutrals - always my first love. They have such a calming effect on my soul.  I love the chair in the last photo of the living room.  I've never seen anything like it.  I also love the counter of the bathroom.  Very organic and natural.  I would love to crawl out of bed to that!

Back To My First Love...Neutrals

Lately, I've been looking at my house with a new eye and I realize that I am actually feeling the pull of my design love from the very start - neutrals combined with many different textures.  I especially like the little Moroccan table - I could use that in so many places.  I'm looking forward to the summer and the time to implement all of the ideas in my head.  Until then, I will enjoy the beauty of nearly every photo on Skona Hem.
